AVI CHAI sponsors day school principals and aspiring principals to attend two one-week summer institutes offered by The Principals’ Center at Harvard University in order to enhance their ability to improve their schools’ quality and to advance their Judaic mission. Improving Schools: The Art of Leadership (AOL) is the institute for those with 1–5 years of leadership experience, and Leadership: An Evolving Vision (LEV) is the institute for those with more than five years of leadership experience. All expenses except travel are paid for participants selected for both programs. Over the past 18 years, a total of more than 460 AVI CHAI-sponsored day school leaders have attended.
AVI CHAI has developed a year-long program, structured around the Harvard Summer Institutes, to help day school leaders work to improve their students’ learning and Jewish experiences and prioritize their own professional growth. This program includes some pre-institute work; additional evening sessions during the Institute to apply the day’s learning to the day school context; and follow-up during the following academic year, including executing a significant Jewish mission/vision project at school. Additional sessions and project management support is provided by Educannon Consulting.
