Over a period of five years, the Chizuk (Strengthening) program aims to identify, place, and facilitate the professional development of senior-level Jewish Programming Directors (JPDs) in the residential JCC camps that have participated in the Lekhu Lakhem program. These learned Jewish educators will provide AVI CHAI/Mandel Lekhu Lakhem Fellows (camp directors) with the skilled high-level professional support they need to transform their camps into providers of excellent Jewish experiences that will be an integral part of the totality of camp life. The program was piloted with three camps during the summer of 2008 and expanded to an additional nine camps during summer 2009.
