Avital Darmon, of Kfar Adumim, is Jerusalem-born. She holds a doctorate in biology and a teacher’s certificate from the Hebrew University and is a graduate of the Mandel School for Educational Leadership in Jerusalem.
Darmon is currently the Director for the Initiative for Applied Education Research, a unit of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. She is the Founder and past Director of the Center for Biology Teachers/Israel, which she established in 1994 under the auspices of Hebrew University and the Ministry of Education. She also is the past Director of the Mandel School for Educational Leadership. Prior, she worked as teacher and educator in the Seligsberg High School in Jerusalem and in the School for Arts and Sciences founded by the Amutah for Excellence in Education. She has served as a member of subject and curriculum committees for the Ministry of Education in biology, science & technology and on committees focusing on teacher-related issues.
