November 15, 2011

The International Association for K-12 Online Learning (INACOL) held their annual conference on November 9-11 in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The Virtual School Symposium (VSS) 2011 theme was “Empowered to perform: online and blended learning models”.  As you might expect, the conference had a Wiki (for real-time discussion and hosting information), webcasting (recorded sessions that you can access) and finally of course a Facebook page, twitter handle (@nacol) and a hashtag (#vss11).
AVI CHAI sponsored 10 members of the faculty and staff of institutions which are exploring the development of Jewish studies to attend the conference, providing the opportunity for professional development and networking.   Sessions about standards for online courses, online learning platforms and the implementation of blended learning models can be applied to the advancement and development of Judaic studies online offerings. The attendees are blogging about their experiences on AVI CHAI’s Educational Technology blog.
We would appreciate opening a dialogue about the potential for online learning in day schools and welcome your thoughts.
